Agassiz-Harrison Employment Services
Open Monday-Friday - 9:00am-4:30pm
Our employment services are available to anyone entitled to work in Canada who is presently unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week. There is NO CHARGE to use our services.
The professional staff at Agassiz-Harrison Community Employment Services is dedicated to assisting individuals with all aspects of their employment search. This includes goal setting and career decision-making, job search preparation and assistance with referrals to various other programs and services. Our goal is to help all our clients find rewarding, long-term employment. We have 2 Employment Consultants on staff, as well as a Youth Outreach Worker and a Job Developer.
Our self-serve resource centre provides:
· Job leads and lots of job postings
· Computers with internet access
· Telephones and message service
· Photocopier and fax machine
· Resource library with job search books, career and school information
We also provide one-on-one employment consulting, assistance with resumes and cover letters, and job coaching. Transportation allowance is available to the centre or to recognized Service Canada programs.
We can also assist with accessing entry-level certifications at no cost. These include: Foodsafe Level 1, WHMIS, First Aid Level 1, CPR, Superhost and Serving it Right.

Specialized services are available for:
EI & past EI Recipients (claim in the last 3 years or 5 years for
maternity/parental):
· The Skills Development program provides a negotiated amount of financial
support for skills training to eligible individuals
· The Targeted Wage Subsidy program assists by offering on-the-job training and
financial incentives to employers
· The Self-Employment Program is a comprehensive business start-up and
development program
Youth: For 15-30 year olds who are not in school full-time, our Youth Outreach
Worker will work with them directly to access employment opportunities and help
overcome any barriers to employment. Service Canada’s Skills Link Program helps
youth facing barriers obtain the knowledge and develop the broad range of skills
and work experience they need to participate in the job market. Youth have
access to:
· The Wage Subsidy program which provides on-the-job training by financially
compensating employers
· The Individualized Skill Enhancement program allows youth to get funding to
access short training courses that will increase their employability.
Persons with Disabilities: For those with self-declared physical, mental, or
learning disabilities, our Job Developer can assist in preparing for and
obtaining employment, as well as in developing the skills to maintain that new
employment. Service Canada’s
Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities
can assist with:
· Wage Subsidies which provide on-the-job training by financially compensating
employers
· The Skills Development program which provides a negotiated amount of financial
support for skills training
· The Self-Employment Program which assists individuals in starting a
business
