Better Beginnings
This Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program funded by Health Canada is a support program for pregnant women and new moms. Thanks to our Better Beginnings program families can access our local grocery store once a month for milk, eggs and other dairy and protein items at no charge.

The Family Place
Jointly funded by Community Action Plan for Children this facility provides a place for parents with infants or toddlers of pre-school age. Adults are able to share experiences and their children are encouraged to meet and play with others in a safe and caring environment.

The Youth Centre/Youth Outreach
This program provides recreational activities, leadership skills and mentoring opportunities for youth between the ages 10 and 18. With the addition of our new Youth Center we have the capability to host youth conferences, meetings and special events. The goal is to provide positive development and safe leisure activities, in a supervised space where youth can feel safe to socialize, talk and join in on safe leadership focused activities.

The Girlpower Program
The aim of the Girlpower Program is to provide girls with the opportunity to talk about issues that may influence their self-confidence and self-esteem during adolescence, and to help them develop skills and strategies to combat negative experiences. we will strive to achieve these goals by encouraging participation in positive discussions and fun activities.The girls group schedule of activities varies, please call for further information.

Parenting Programs
The Nobody’s Perfect parenting course is offered twice a year.
We also offer prenatal nutrition programs and drop in times with guided workshops on cooking, canning and first aid skills.

Emergency Food Bank
This program is available to residents in need of short term assistance and can be accessed once a month per household by applying at the AHCS main office.
The Christmas Hamper program is available during the festive season. Hampers include food items as well as presents for young children and teens. Applications accepted after the first of November.
Hours: Wednesdays from 10-12pm & 1-3pm
Family Support Program / Youth Outreach
Support Services for children, youth, and families. Assistance given in conflict resolution, parenting, and crises intervention.

Substance Misuse Services
Outpatient Drug and Alcohol counseling for individuals and families experiencing substance misuse problems.
We support a harm-reduction model that acknowledges the various levels of risk associated with alcohol and drug use.
This program is funded with the assistance of Fraser Health Authority.

Victims Assistance Program
The Victim Assistance Program is located at the Agassiz, RCMP office, it provides support to victims of crime by providing emotional support, practical assistance, information and referrals to those who have had involvement with the Criminal Justice System or a tragedy.

Thrift Store
Our volunteer run Thrift Store provides members of the community with re-cycled household goods, clothing, children's toys, house wares, furniture and tools, as well as many seasonal items.
New stock arrives daily, so drop by often to pick up some real bargains!
One hundred percent of our Thrift Store profits go back into the community to help run many of our community service programs.

Senior Peer Counselors
Offers “one-on-one” services provided by trained senior volunteers who offer emotional support, guidance and empathy, to at-risk peers troubled by loneliness, depression, isolation loss and/or conflict with loved ones as well as other life changes.

Friendly Phone Program
This program is run entirely by our volunteers and helps to provide companionship with “shut-ins” or seniors on a regular weekly basis.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters
Matching positive adult role models (aged 18 and over) with children between 6 and 13 years old. They spend time together once a week doing activities they both enjoy. Matching also “in-School-Mentors” or “Big Buddies” with children in grades3 or 4 who meet with them for an hour a week at school.

CALL Program (Community Adult Literacy & Learning)
The C.A.L.L. program provides “one-to-one” volunteer tutors
to adult learners needing to improve basic literacy skills.
These skills may include: reading, writing, comprehension, and
numeracy skills.
The program also offers “Basic Computer” workshops for those who
have little to no computer experience. It is presented in plain
language which is also suitable for ESL learners.
The CALL-Agassiz program is funded by the Ministry of Advanced
Education and is in partnership with the University College of
the Fraser Valley.

English Conversation Circle
“Let’s Talk English” is a group which meets weekly at the
Agassiz Public Library. It is open to adults wishing to improve
their English-speaking skills.
This program is an extension of the CALL program which is funded
by the Ministry of Advanced Education and in partnership with
the Fraser Valley Regional Library.

English as a Second Language Settlement Assistance Program (ESL-SAP)
This program provides “one-to-one” volunteer tutors to adult
learners (17yrs+) who are immigrants or refugees to Canada.
The program assists helps ESL learners with reading, writing,
speaking, and listening skills. ESL-SAP addresses the immediate
needs of the learner; such as dealing with a child’s school or
how to make a doctor’s appointment.
